Sony added VGN-SZ390 and VGN-SZ340 CTO (Configure-To-Order) models to its 13.3″ widescreen SZ series. Both models (as all SZ-series) feature Hybrid Graphic System technology — Sony’s new proprietary graphics chip switch system that lets you select from a choice of external or internal graphics accelerator. In SPEED MODE, the system uses the powerful external graphics chip (NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 with NVIDIA® TurboCacheâ„¢*), perfect when you want full graphic acceleration for smooth video playing or image editing. In STAMINA MODE, it uses the internal graphics chip, convenient when you need battery stamina for long PC usage outside the office or on business trips. With more pricey VGN-SZ390 model Sony offers only Core 2 Duo CPUs, storage options starting with 80GB 5400RPM hard drive and all configurations include built-in camera and microphone. With VGN-SZ340, starting (low-end) configuration can be build around Intel® Celeron® Processor 430 (1.73GHz), without built-in camera and microphone and hard drives choices start with 40 and 60 GB hard drives. SZ-series hard drives features VAIO HDD Protection function for secured mobility. When the built-in 3D acceleration sensor senses shakes and/or shocks, VAIO HDD Protection places the HDD head in a safe position to protect the disk from scratches.
