Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 Reviewed By Laptop Magazine

toshibasatellitep105s972i.jpgReviewing Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 Laptop Magazine gives it 4 out of 5 stars rating and writes, “Priced at less than $2,000, the Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722, with its black-and-silver glossy curves, may not look like a traditional gaming rig, but the machine packs plenty of polygon-pushing muscle. Strong performance, a jumbo-sized hard drive, and tons of connectivity options make the P105-S9722 an all-around winner, save for the rather pedestrian battery life.

The large (17-inch) glossy screen delivers 1440 x 900 pixels of resolution. That’s not quite as high as other desktop replacement systems we’ve tested, some of which display 1900 x 1220 pixels. Multimedia mavens will appreciate the Harman Kardon speakers, however, which are loud enough to fill a small room when watching movies, listening to music, or playing games. Read more.. »

Dell XPS M1210 (Vista Ultimate) Reviewed By CNET

32329097-2-300-overview-1.JPGReviewing Dell XPS M1210 (Vista Ultimate), CNET gives it 7.5 out of 10 rating (very good) and writes, “High-end components and performance are generally restricted to midsize and larger laptops, so it’s always nice to see a smaller system aimed at power users. The $2,329 Dell XPS M1210 (configurations start at $1,299) makes the move to Windows Vista, combining power and portability in a package that lives on the outskirts of the ultraportable category. While it’s not for hard-core gamers, those who need above-average performance in a compact system won’t mind paying a premium for this unique road-worthy hybrid.

Typical for Dell systems, the XPS M1210 is highly configurable to suit a wide range of budgets and needs. Our review unit arrived fairly tricked out, including a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 CPU, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 120GB hard drive running at 5,400rpm, a Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 GPU, and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. ASUS W5fe (SideShow) Reviewed By PC Magazine

asus_pc_0012.jpgReviewing ASUS W5fe, an ultraportable officially announced at CES 2007 in Las Vegas and utilizing SideShow feature of Windows Vista, PCMagazine gives it 3.5 out of 5 rating and writes, “The W5fe’s 3.9-pound frame fits the profile of an ultraportable. When you flip the cover open, you’ll find a gorgeous 12.1-inch widescreen, but the most compelling feature actually resides on the opposite side. Embedded in the outside of the lid is a 2.8-inch LCD, which is about the size of the Apple iPod (with video) screen, with the same 320-by-240 resolution. The screen is a full-color display, unlike the text-only SideShow display found on the Toshiba Portege R400-S4931. There are a handful of physical controls next to the SideShow LCD, including a four-way navigation dial, and Enter, Back, and Menu buttons.

It goes without saying that you’ll need some speed to run the W5fe. Thankfully, the system comes with a 2.16-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7400 processor, not a low-voltage processor like the one found on the Portege R400-S4391. The system loads 1.5GB of RAM to offset Vista’s hefty requirements, and you’ll be able to store plenty of media files with the 160GB hard drive. The $2,200 price tag includes both a three-cell and six-cell battery. Read more.. »

Lenovo T60P (Windows Vista) Reviewed By CNET

32328020-2-300-overview-1.gifReviewing Lenovo T60P (Windows Vista) business laptop, CNET gives it 7.1 out of 10 rating (very good) and writes, “While the venerable Lenovo T60P, a workhorse business laptop that’s a common sight in airports and hotel lounges around the world, is currently available in a more contemporary (and consumer-friendly) wide-screen format, the traditional non-wide-screen version is among the first Lenovo systems to embrace Windows Vista. At $2,250, it’s a solidly built laptop (with basic configurations that start at around $1,200) that blends performance and portability. It may not be terribly exciting, but if you need to upgrade to Vista and still keep that button-down look, this is your default choice.

Our $2,250 ThinkPad T60P review unit costs almost double the system’s base price. For the extra money you get a 2.3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 CPU, 2GB of RAM, and Windows Vista Business. For the $1,200 starting price, you’ll have to trade down to a 1.67GHz T5500 CPU, only 512MB of RAM, and Windows XP Pro–leaving you with a system that’s cheaper but has a much shorter useful life. Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet (Windows Vista) Reviewed By CNET

32328161-2-300-keyboard-2.gifReviewing Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet (Windows Vista), CNET gives it 7.3 out of 10 rating (very good) and writes, “When we first looked at the Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet in November 2006, we were impressed by its usability features, including an indoor/outdoor touch-screen display, an improved stylus, and the Active Rotate feature. Since the release of Windows Vista Business Edition, though, we were curious to see how our favorite tablet performed with the new operating system. To that end, we got our hands on an X60 Tablet that had been refreshed with a faster processor, more RAM, and a larger, faster hard drive. These enhancements were enough to sustain the X60 Tablet’s reputation as an excellent tablet with enough power for demanding business use. It’s still expensive–our review unit cost $2,467, and that still doesn’t include even an external optical drive–but the ThinkPad X60 Tablet remains one of our favorite convertibles for highly mobile business users. Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi Reviewed By Laptop Magazine

acerferrari5005i.jpgReviewing Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi Laptop Magazine gives it 4 out of 5 stars rating and writes, “A sports car is a blast, but on a long drive its tight confines and sacrifices in creature comforts make a sporty luxury car more alluring. The same line of thinking is behind the $2,399 Acer Ferrari 5005WLMi (a Windows Vista Ultimate version is available for $2,699). It delivers the sharp looks of the ultraportable Acer Ferrari 1000 but in a scaled-up package that’s more comfortable to use in the home, office, or dorm.

With its glossy carbon-fiber-patterned lid, red accents, and yellow prancing-horse logo, the 5005WLMi stands out from the field of gray and silver notebooks, without being as outlandish as the Alienware Aurora or Asus Lamborghini models. At 6.6 pounds and an inch thick at its leading edge, the unit is manageable to carry. Read more.. »

Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet Reviewed By Laptop Magazine

lenovothinkpadx60tableti.jpgReviewing Lenovo ThinkPad X60 Tablet, Laptop Magazine gives it 4.5 out of 5 stars rating and writes, “The original IBM/Lenovo X41 convertible has been our favorite ultralight Tablet-notebook combo since it premiered nearly two years ago, but its poky CPU has long since been outpaced by the competition. We are happy to see that everything we loved about the X41 is still here in the new X60 Tablet. Lenovo introduces some impressive and unique Tablet features here that put even more distance between it and the competition. And while it’s not perfect, the X60 Tablet overcomes some shortfalls to make sure Lenovo remains king of the convertible hill.

With its signature matte black finish, bulletproof build quality, and superb keyboard, the 3.7-pound X60 Tablet (with stock four-cell battery) is more compact, usable, and sturdy than any ultralight convertible we have used. Unlike some lightweights, this one is well balanced, so it doesn’t teeter on your lap, and it feels firm under a good key pounding. Read more.. »

Dell Inspiron E1505 (Windows Vista) Reviewed By CNET

31963825-2-300-keyboard-2.gifReviewing Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows Vista, CNET gives it 6.4 out of 10 rating and writes, “With the release of Windows Vista in late January, PC manufacturers have been quick to update their laptop models–those that can handle the upgrade, that is–with various flavors of the new operating system. For the midsize Inspiron E1505, Dell now offers a choice of Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Home Basic. We got our hands on an updated E1505 with the Premium version and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Despite its high-end components, the laptop’s performance on our benchmarks didn’t wow us, most likely due to the new demands of Windows Vista. Read more.. »
